How To Get Your Motorhome Ready For Summer

The warmer weather is finally here and that means it’s time to dust off your motorhome and get ready for some summer adventures! Whether you’re planning a big lap or just some weekend getaways, a little preparation now will ensure your motorhome is safe, comfortable and ready to go.
Here’s our checklist to help you get your motorhome summer-ready.
1. Give it a thorough clean
Start with a deep clean inside and out. Wash the exterior to remove any winter grime, bird droppings and dust. Pay special attention to the roof, seals around windows and hatches. Inside, wipe down all surfaces, clean the fridge, vacuum the floors and air out the cushions and mattresses.
2. Check and service the air conditioning
Nothing ruins a summer trip faster than a broken air conditioner. Have your roof-mounted AC unit professionally serviced and cleaned. Replace filters if needed and test it thoroughly before you head off.
3. Inspect tyres and brakes
Check tyre tread depth, pressure and overall condition. Summer heat can increase tyre pressure, so monitor this closely. Have your brakes, suspension and wheel bearings checked by a qualified motorhome mechanic.
4. Test the awning and outdoor living setup
Clean and inspect your awning for any damage or mould. Test the mechanism to make sure it deploys and retracts smoothly. Consider adding an anti-flap kit for those windy summer days. Set up your outdoor furniture, mat and lighting so you’re ready to enjoy evenings under the stars.
5. Service the fridge and kitchen
Run your fridge for a few days before your trip to ensure it’s working efficiently. Clean it thoroughly and check seals. Test the stove, oven and hot water system. Stock up on summer-friendly recipes that don’t require too much oven use.
6. Check all systems and safety equipment
- Test all lights, indicators and brakes
- Check fire extinguishers and smoke alarms
- Inspect water tanks, pumps and hoses
- Test the battery and charging system
- Update your first aid kit for summer (include insect repellent and sunscreen)
7. Pack smart for summer
Focus on light clothing, swimwear, beach towels, insect repellent, sunscreen, a good esky and plenty of cold drinks. Don’t forget games and activities for downtime at camp.
